Emotional Toll
This morning, I told myself I am done with the "emotional toll," smoking cigarettes has had on me. I had a couple this early morning, but now have none nor any money to buy a pack. To smoke I would again have to go through an emotional toll road to get them. I hope I'm serious. I think I can spend the rest of the day and weekend isolated and treating myself as sick. Hope all SR nicotine addicts are doing well in their recovery.
I have 2 months smoke free today. I almost never think about smoking anymore. I feel free - no emotional toll road to traverse. You can do it. Just get through the first few days and it gets easier and easier after that. Treat yourself as if you are sick for a few days if that's what it takes to get started.
Wiscsober, Have you read Allen Carr's Easyway to stop smoking. It was a gamechanger for me. Almost 3 months smokefree. Ive quit many times with small amounts of success, until this time. You can download it for free if you search google. Good luck!

Yes I have. It really helped. Repeat times not so much. Thanks for the suggestion.
Passed on the first smoke with coffee this a.m.
That first morning smoke was the hardest one for me, so good job! I didnt totally follow Carr's instructions, as I use the gum, but it's working. I read his book like the big book, a little at a time, a lot of the time lol. Its been some tough times, as my husband smokes..a lot
You can do it! It's hard - you know that already. Harder than quitting drinking for me. But I am SO HAPPY to be over 6 months smoke free. I have quit many times in my life, sometimes for years. But this time I feel different about quitting than ever before. I really cannot imagine ever smoking again. I think because I'm using a lot of the same tools I used when I quit drinking - tools I did not have for my other quits. It makes a difference.
I relapsed a week ago wiscsober. Made 35 days, but stress got in the way. No excuses, hey!
Have booked into to see a Quit counsellor for next week. I know I have to do it myself, but am finding it so hard. Talking with someone, accountability, idk, but I need to do something. Smoking really sucks and I hate it. Not enough by the look of it.

I made it to a month several times in the past few years. Seemed like I could white knuckle it that long, but then some extra stress would come my way and boom, right back at it. That's why I went on Chantix. Not sure why, but that was what I needed, even though I only took it for a little over a month, not the 2 or 3 they recommend. Maybe try that, if you haven't?
35 days is a good run Steely! Excellent practice for the real quit, so Im glad you are not beating yourself up too bad. I quit for exactly 30 days 2 years before this quit. Stress got me too. Funny thing though.. smoking didnt help one bit, and in my case, it increased my stress.
I saw a quit counselor at Mayo Clinic (not sure if you know what that is, but in the US it is gold standard medical care) and it helped me a lot. I hope it helps you too! I dont know that Mayo has a better system than anyone else, thats just where I recieved my medical care from a possible smoking related medical diagnosis.

I find it's relatable to stress aswell. E.g, I'm using vapes now- had been down to the lowest dose of nicotine, but now I'm back on the highest. And I find that I get worried/anxious when I am running out. Had to go to town the other day (in the rain) just for this.
First time I got off the smokes was with a combination of a cheap vape pen, and the gums.
So I recommend trying that. On the vape fulltime now, but its a big improvement.
