Nurse in Recovery
Hello. I'm an RN, alcoholic, and addict. I'm new to sobriety - day #49 - and I'm new here. I'm hoping to connect with other nurses and medical professionals who are also in recovery. Thanks.

Hello! I'm a nurse 90 days in recovery now xx I had a stressful job as a specialist nurse but I gave it up and I'm currently making pizzas and never been happier! But I hope to return to nursing soon. Feel free to message me any time xx
Welcome.
I am in a field that expects extreme awareness and job knowledge. I feel like I can relate to a nurse.
I offer this....
I am so much better at life sober. Everything is better.
It all is just easier.
I periodically wonder how I survived for so many years being drunk and or under the influence of booze.
Now educated, thanks to SR, I go through each day thankful I made it out. Things are hard enough, e.g. aches and pains, emotions, sleep issues, viruses etc.
Addiction and lack of education are what kept me drinking. I will crave for the rest of my life, but the crave has gotten weaker and less and less persistent.
But, when I do crave, it feels a bit like the first time. I suffer through and then it is gone. That is my flow. Suffer a bit or a lot, and it goes away.
I obviously have a sober life process I have developed. Initially, I copied my wife and son. How did they stay sober all day and night.
Now I make my own way.
Thanks.

Hi Paezlie!
I am a nurse with 2,5 years sober. I mostly read on this forum rather than post, but when I saw your post I had to reply. Alcoholism and addiction are rampant in our profession, and you are most definitely not alone!! Feel free to PM me if you would like.❤️
Congrats on your sober time! One day at a time!! It gets so much better!!

I am an RN with 2.5 years sober after many fits and starts. I was drinking 24/7 for a couple years toward the end of my drinking career. I had to drink before work in order to even be safe to drive. I had to drink before I could put my makeup on. I shook constantly until I had enough alcohol in my bloodstream.
Forty-nine days is AMAZING!! Don't go backwards. It always ends the same. PM me if you want or need support.

Hello and welcome! Fellow health professional here. Alcoholism certainly is an issue in our (or any) field. The anonymity of this site is especially nice--We can support and encourage one another without the stigma that can bring us down.
Congrats on your days of sobriety.
