Doctor has just told me I have diabetes
I have type 2 diabetes. ATM I am trying to lose weight and it's working. As long as you don't have to take insulin tablets it's easily controlled by diet. Just cut out cakes and biscuits for starters. Only 2 fruits per day. I have peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet caused by both diabetes and drinking. Eventually you will not crave sweet food at all. I know this sounds like the opposite of what you need to do to stay sober but diabetes is a progressive killer disease as well.

So glad you are sober!
And I have to add a voice of concern here - my mom is indeed older than you by a couple decades but diabetes CAN be quit difficult. My aunt has had it for decades now and it's been very up and down. There are other complications for each of them now, in their 70s - my mom having been diagnosed only around 4 years ago at 70. I only say this as a voice of caution that you take this VERY seriously now and stay close with your dr. There are good meds and ways to handle diabetes quite effectively - it can also be progressive in the sense that other health things that might come up (thyroid, for example, or low sodium levels which themselves can be fatal) can quickly make diabetes dangerous.
Glad you are doing all you can to be healthy. Keep it all up.
