I'm type 1 so no amount of diet control will change it, but it's really not that bad these days. Pretty easy to control and remember - you control it, don't let it control you x

I'm sure that choosing sobriety has been very helpful for your diabetes, too.

Taking care of yourself and not drinking will be the best way to manage it.

Hang onto the light, mummy, steer clear of the dark.

I have type 2 diabetes. ATM I am trying to lose weight and it's working. As long as you don't have to take insulin tablets it's easily controlled by diet. Just cut out cakes and biscuits for starters. Only 2 fruits per day. I have peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet caused by both diabetes and drinking. Eventually you will not crave sweet food at all. I know this sounds like the opposite of what you need to do to stay sober but diabetes is a progressive killer disease as well.

So glad you are sober!

And I have to add a voice of concern here - my mom is indeed older than you by a couple decades but diabetes CAN be quit difficult. My aunt has had it for decades now and it's been very up and down. There are other complications for each of them now, in their 70s - my mom having been diagnosed only around 4 years ago at 70. I only say this as a voice of caution that you take this VERY seriously now and stay close with your dr. There are good meds and ways to handle diabetes quite effectively - it can also be progressive in the sense that other health things that might come up (thyroid, for example, or low sodium levels which themselves can be fatal) can quickly make diabetes dangerous.

Glad you are doing all you can to be healthy. Keep it all up.

Mummy, you really need to talk to your dr about the required diet.

We can't offer any kind of medical advice.

My wife was able to control her high blood sugar by radically changing her diet. It was easier than quitting drinking for her.

Go to Diabetes.org on the internet. Lots of info about food, etc.
