We are the best thing to ever happen to us!!

Read this yesterday in "the language of letting go" by melody Beattie. Thought I'd share again as I need reminding a lot lately as a recovering codependent.

It is time to stop this nonsense of running around picking on ourselves.

We may have walked through much of our life apologizing for ourselves either directly or indirectly—feeling less valuable than others, believing that they know better than we do, and believing that somehow others are meant to be here and we are not.

We have a right to be here.

We have a right to be ourselves.

We are here. There is a purpose, a reason, and an intention for our life. We do not have to apologize for being here or being who we are.

We are good enough, and deserving.

Others do not have our magic. We have our magic. It is in us.

It doesn’t matter what we’ve done in our past. We all have a past, woven with mistakes, successes, and learning experiences. We have a right to our past. It is ours. It has worked to shape and form us. As we progress on this journey, we shall see how each of our experiences will be turned around and used for good.

We have already spent too much time being ashamed, being apologetic, and doubting the beauty of ourselves. Be done with it. Let it go. It is an unnecessary burden. Others have rights, but so do we. We are neither less than nor more than. We are equal. We are who we are. That is who we were created and intended to be.

That, my friend, is a wonderful gift.

Thanks GJ, this is so, so important and it can be a bit hard to do at times but hugely worth it!

So hard to do and believe at times but if it's the truth. The work is to get to a point of believing and feeling worthy of this I guess.

I used to be pretty bad about doing this. I still catch myself once in a while.

I think it's something that kind of creeps up over time. You are having a down day and you look in the mirror and think - well you look like crap. You say something not particularly useful or ask a question without thinking then think - well that was stupid.

Someone gets their feelings hurt by you unintentionally and you decide you are a bad person and thoughtless. Well you aren't actually thoughtless unless there is a pattern, we all do thoughtless things from time to time. That kind of stuff.

That's something that you can change pretty quickly if you set your mind to it, if you start being mindful. Do you look like crap today, no, not really, are you a mean person? No, not really. Do you ask a question without thinking or say something that is not useful - probably - because we all do that lol

The thing is to not be so self-critical, because why would you be!

Why would you be?

Your welcome!

I have noticed lately, the apologising for myself when there's no need at all has crept back in. Being aware of it allows me to work at stopping it. I've nothing to be sorry for.
