Starting Over
Hi, I'm ready to try to stop again. I've been thru this a number of times.
Actually had some success, (for me), last year made it a bit more
than 6 Months. I tend to be a lurker on forums, but plan on giving
it a real effort this time.

Welcome to the posting side. I'm a bit of a lurker and an avid reader here myself. I hope we hear a lot from you (so I can lurk and avidly read your posts). This is a great source of support, and we're a splendid weirdo family here.
hey Lars, good to see you.
yeah, four posts in four years isn’t exactly a barrage
getting really engaged with others on a daily basis was the main change i made in the beginning of my sobriety...well, the main one other than not drinking
stick around.

Thanks, all. Well in the spirit of my new attitude, I'll share I'm seeing my Doc tomorrow. Also have made an appt. with a councilor in a couple of weeks. Gotta say though, the holidays coming up are worrying me.

Hi Fini, ya well you saw my post just now. I found after my 1st post back when,
I started getting several friend requests right away and it spooked me off.
I'm a bit more comfortable with how things work now.

Hi Larrs,
To me lurking is fine if it helps you. Not everyone needs to post. In fact I'm sure there are a few folks who would be just fine if I never posted again. What I have found to be a helpful approach is to simply click the "Thanks" button on other folks posts when it helps me. It's a way to show participation and appreciation w/o actually posting.

Larrs,
i distinctly remember typing two r's in your name yesterday, but clearly something changed..sorry about that; i am careful about names.
yeah, several friend requests off the bat would spook me, too.
nothing wrong with lurking, but i could not have predicted the difference that actually engaging made.
it...well, it "required" something of me, something more direct, more present, more deliberate.
good day to you.

Larrs, this is a safe place so I hope that you can make use of the support and information you get here.
Talking to your dr and to a counsellor are both good ideas to help your recovery. As far as the upcoming holidays, I think the best thing to do is to plan ahead and be prepared. And, don't be afraid to say 'No' to an invitation if you are feeling vulnerable.

You're absolutely free to accept them all - or none
