Someone out of my past....
Someone out of my past....
Good morning everyone!
Back in 2010, I belonged to a volunteer organization here that was planning to host a regional convention. The ringleader of the group sent me an email while I was out of town, telling me that the board had voted that I should step down from my role there. Apparently I had ruffled some feathers on folks at the national office.
I sent an email to all the members of that board telling them that I understood they had voted me out. I only heard from one couple telling me they were sorry, and they had abstained from voting.
Fast forward to 2013. I moved back here and was contacted by the new dean of that organization. She wanted me to get involved again. I showed her the copies of all the emails from 2010.
She was quite surprised and didn't remember any vote. As a matter of fact, the ringleader told them I had resigned for personal reasons.
Yesterday, the ringleader showed up at my office, telling coworkers what great friends we are. He wants me to meet him for breakfast sometime.
I suppose I could meet and rub his nose in things. Otherwise, what is the point? What would YOU folks do?

Wow, how unethical!
1. how sure are you that the new Dean has access to all information?
2. Before deciding on a course of action you really need to be sure that this person did not manipulate you like this
If it proves true
a. when he asks you again, politely turn him down
b. be very clear that you now know exactly what happened and considering the circumstances you would appreciate it if he stayed out of your way otherwise you would be letting the powers that be know exactly what happened. He ought to give you a wide berth from then on. I say this because people like this have to be called out on their s***!

Thanks to ALL you friends who posted.
That organization is down to 5 members here, in a town of almost 1/ 2 million. The local chapter was founded in 1946.
The national organization is in trouble as well. A lot of in-fighting and posturing.
you folks need not worry about me getting involved with them again.
As for yesterday, I felt calm and protected in the middle of the big surprise of him showing up. I put on my best professional demeanor.

No way I'd meet up with him.
Beyond that - IF I had been present for this:
I'd have simply replied, "No - actually we're not even in the ballpark of friends. I would barely label us as acquaintances - we obviously have different definitions."
And walked away. I won't pretend. If I wasn't around for his drop-in, I'd laugh when people relayed the story & tell them the same thing - he & I are NOT friends, don't let him fool you.
