I have 6 years sober today
Dear SR Family
Today it is 6 years since I had a drink.
To the newcomers and those starting out on this journey, it is worth the effort if you want to stop drinking.
I like myself and I respect myself more and I am so glad that I have never had to wake up and think 'what did I say, what did I do' for the last 2190 days.
I lead a very honest life now.
I am a good employee and a good mum, a good daughter and a good friend.
SR has been the biggest contributor to my sobriety.
In the beginning I could not attend many meetings as I had a baby. She was 2 when I gave up drinking and I had no childcare.
I used to come here all the time and read and learn.
I have been through some tough times in the 6 years - my relationship broke down because my partner was having an affair, I was made redundant. I had some serious health problems and I had to move house.
But I never drank.
I remember sleeping with my laptop next to me because if felt like my SR family were close to me, ridiculous as it sounds.
I am a firm believer that 'everything will be okay in the end. If it is not okay, it is not the end'.
That got me through the tough times. Its so true in that everything did turn out okay, even though I felt lost and unhappy at first. More than okay most of the time.
So I just want to thank all the friends that I have here for getting me through and being on my side.
I love you all very much.
I know we should never have favourites but I do love Dee the most and I always will do.
I wish everyone the best
Sasha xx

Sasha. thank you so much for this inspiring post, and congratulations on 6 years! That is an incredible accomplishment, and so wonderful that you stopped drinking when your daughter was so young.

I thank God for that.
Parenting can be hard, but parenting with a hangover is just awful!!
