Trying this again

Hello everyone. I'm back. I havent been on here since 2014. I've been trying to fight my drinking all alone and things have really only gotten worse. Since I last posted, my wife and I have separated, I've switched a few jobs, and things have gotten worse. Not all caused by drinking, but my drinking has certainly only compounded my problems.

I've been living alone, about 120 miles from my kids. I've been lonely and seeking companionship in the bars. Of course, that's just a crummy way of trying to block out my sadness and loneliness.

This morning, after another night of drinking, I've realized that the only path to happiness is going to require me to not take that first drink, everyday, from here on out. Of course thats all of our goals, just not an easy one.

Anyway, I'll be lurking around and trying to have a little extra support from the SR community. Glad to be back.

Hi Seabee, good to meet you.

Sorry you've had a rough couple of years. Great that you're back and going to focus on getting and staying sober. SR has been invaluable to me and I hope you stick around and post. There's always someone here, you don't have to fight this battle on your own anymore. Stay strong Seabee, everything can and will get better.

Being alone and without any friends is what makes it so difficult. I just thankful that places like this exist, and I can at least occupy my time by reading on here. Helps to keep my eye on the prize.

Hiya Seabee, welcome back.

It's not easy to begin with but it really does get easier to not drink so the norm becomes not drinking. I hope you stick around, so much help from people who know what you're going through.

glad ya made it back, seabee( my dad was a seabee back in WWII).
2 things that caught my attention that ya may want to change:
Trying this again- do you honestly want to TRY recovery or DO?

"I'll be lurking around .."
should you lurk in the background or get involved in your recovery?

i strongly encourage ya to look find a recovery program/plan and work it.

I was mainly referring to trying this site again. AA is my main avenue.

Very good to see you again, Seabee. I'm sorry for the painful time you've gone through. I sabotaged myself in a similar way.

Please know that you have friends here - people who truly understand what you're going through. You never have to feel alone. I'm glad you've made the decision to reclaim your life. We know you can do it.

SB- that word.. 'ALONE'. I could not and cannot stay sober alone. I drank alone- a perfect storm for me to set up to fail. Can you get to meetings? See a counsellor? Support to you.

I'm going to start attending meetings. Where I live now, they are very few and far between, but soon I'm moving much closer to a place where there are daily meetings and I'm definitely looking forward to that.

there werent many where i lived when i got sober,too- 4 meetings/wk in town, then next closest meeting a 52 mile round trip.
it wasnt uncommon for me to drive 300+ miles/week attending meetings.
