Drinking 4 or 5 shots of vodka a night

Hello everyone,
I came across this SR site when looking for answers about alcohol addiction I drink every night 4 to 5 shots of vodka, for the last 5 years and 4 years prior to that it was whiskey. And the occasional beer here and there. I want to stop drinking I'm 30years old and I'm afraid of the damage I'm doing to my body. I felt like this site might have a good support system I can turn to for help

Welcome, and you've come to the right place.

I will defer to those who have more experience on methods of quitting.

Thank you so much! I seem to be okay during the day but at night I get the urge to want to drink when my husband and I are just hanging out watching TV and bless his heart he has never put me down for drinking every night. Are you currently sober from alcohol?

Hello, Sdoobie, and welcome!

That sounds like a good enough motivation to start with?

Next step I guess is putting down the bottle? See your doctor if you're concerned about withdrawal - it can be a "wildish" ride for some, especially unsupervised.

There's loads of experience and support 24 hours a day here. It's one of my main sources of support.

All the best, and keep us posted, please?
Bruce.

I have been for almost 5 months. I quit cold, but I drank only beer and I'm not educated enough on quitting to give you good advice.

Hi Sdoobie! I'm right there with you and looking to get a solid foothold on sobriety and recovery. I'm feeling a bit down right now, but am working towards lasting recovery. Let's do this together!

I've been struggling with quitting and I made a call today to a detox / recovery center. This site is a great support resource and I've found I also need some in person support and someone to work with me 1:1 to put together a recovery plan for me.

Welcome to SR Sdoobie! Have you tried tapering off? Just cut back a shot a night every so often.

YES I'm struggling as well it's become such a habit I don't know what else to do during my "normal drinking time" plus I only drink when I get off work it mellows me out but once I start I keep filling my shot glass until I go to sleep. So it's gonna be hard.

Thank you! No I haven't tried that but I think that's a great idea! thats where my problem lies once I start it's hard for me to not think about filling my shot glass again and again.

So I drink about 4 or 5 shots with in about 3 to 5 hour period always after work. I'm pretty immune to vodka so I don't get sloppy Drunk I just get sleepy and go to bed I'm not an angry drinker either it's more of relaxing addiction for me.

You sound like me at 30. The good news is that you are in a way better frame of mind then I was. I loved drinking at that age and had no plans or thoughts of quitting. It was all positive for me at that point. No negative consequences in any way.

As my alcoholism progressed it got much less fun and much more of a burden. I drank because I had to not because I wanted too.

You would be smart to quit while you are ahead, because 15 yrs can fly by like it did for me.
