Coping without alcohol

Not only does looking for a new job suck, with ten years experience and 3 degrees and people low ball you, that really sucks. Usually, I would just say "I'll just get drunk, screw them." I can't do that anymore, I have to sit here and think about it, I can't just get drunk and forget about it. I have to keep reminding myself that I am exactly where I should be.

Good idea on reminding yourself you don't need to drink about it.
Life will throw you disappointment, but think about if you did drink over it.
The regret, anxiety and absolutely nothing accomplished by drinking.
Drinking doesn't take problems away, it amplifies them and brings along with it the pain of starting on sobriety all over again.

Best wishes to you on your sobriety and job hunt.

I wrote this thread recently which is about coping without alcohol. Some good ideas (from other people) here I think:

Coping aside, I'd like share something with regards to your comments about degrees, experience and a difficult job search. I have repeatedly learnt that what matters most is networking and connecting. All the other things help but at most they are necessary but not sufficient.

Its great that you are sober going through your job hunt . I understand your frustration though . I remember being out of work for a spell after redundancy . I done 2 courses gaining decent IT qualifications . I ended up doing a security course and now work in that industry . In hindsight I believe my problem was that I had zero self esteem , no belief in myself AND I was getting drunk regularly . I beleive had i been sober I would have landed a job in IT .

The job WILL come for you if you stay positive I,m sure of it , good luck .
