Day 4. First post
Day 4. First post
Greetings, I'm now four days into my most recent effort to stop drinking. I am grateful I found SR back on day 1 and happened across talk of "AV".
I had gotten to a point where I felt as if I was developing a multiple personality disorder. Morning me would always say, that's it, no more. Then around midday, my AV wakes up and tells me things like, it can wait for another day or, it's not really a problem.
Now that I understand this is something many addicts deal with gives me confidence that I can indeed stand up to this deceiving voice in my head.
Yesterday I overcame one of my big triggers, getting off work early enough to binge before my wife gets home. Fortunately I had packed a gym bag back on day 1 in case this came up. Feeling great today for making the right decision this time. Now to tackle the next trigger today, the end of the work week.
Thank you all for being here on SR. Reading these forums are really boosting my confidense

Way to go finding us and deciding to get sober
You can join us on the August 2016 thread. I've got 5 days and joined it Sunday. It's nice to connect with others that have the same sobriety timeline.
Good luck!

I like you seem to easily hide it from the wife or she just doesn't see it as enough of a problem I can't handle. Drinking doesn't affect my work or life too much, but it's something I'm trying to overcome. There are infinite levels of addiction and abuse, yet I suffer in my own way and maintain a personal endeavor. (Not British)
My advice is to keep working out. If you're past any withdrawal and think you're ok, then I suggest keep exorcising because it works. I'm a weekend bender myself, after years of 4-5 day drinking; but I've managed to keep it at a weird level, say every 2-3 weekends I'll go on a 2-3 day binge. It still pisses me off, keeps me down and hurts my potential.
I have not had a weekend binge for close to a month and here's what I've accomplished.
Abuse is pervasive in diminished life, while your AV struggles to persuade and survive. It's a f'd up relationship you don't need to be part of.
Stay strong, live right and achieve what you envision life should be like.
Best,

- I lost 10lbs picking up biking again.
- My home looks like Mr. Miyagi just sold it to me.
- My wife is pleased, my kids are happy.
- I don't have a feeling of dread.
- I look better and feel fantastic.
- I'm thinking clearly and considering joining martial arts again.
