How to deal with chronic pain?
If someone takes opiates for chronic pain and says they drink because of it - what can u do? My friend is that person. She's about to get evicted. We did an intervention but I get stuck on her pain problem. She's clearly addicted but scared to come off.

I'm not sure there's much you can do press. If she doesn't want to quit that kinda sets the outcome before you start.
I used to 'drink for pain' - the truth was it wasn't very effective at all - but it sounded such a valid reason that very few people every pulled me up on it.

Is she doing anything other than taking meds for pain? Physical therapy and yoga are great options. I have chronic pain from a hairline fracture in my hip/SI joint. Sucks. Opiates, thank god, make me feel awful and constipated. And frankly, they don't work. Yeah, they make me high, I don't notice the pain as much, but they ultimately do nothing to resolve it.
Depending on the nature of the chronic pain, there are dietary plans that can help address root cause rather than symptom ploy. One area where there has been a lot of research is in autoimmune disorders.
