Insomnia driving me nuts
Insomnia driving me nuts
Here I am at midnight again, wide awake and irritated. I've seen three am the past three nights despite long walks, staying hydrated, etc
I took melatonin every night and it's like I didn't even take them.
H blew off my "couch to 5k" plan I asked if we could do together in favor of Sierra Nevadas (a beer I actually like) tonight.
I just put on my headphones and read a bit and literally tried to tune it out.
Sleep! Where arrrreee you? I miss you!!!

I feel you, madgirl! I'm okay at the moment but insomnia has been an on again, off again companion of mine for many years. It's one of the reasons I started drinking heavily to begin with (although the booze just made it worse).

with me my sleeping was messed up , too much or too little for the first few months of sobriety .
Every day sober put me a day further away from the cause , alcohol . This is not the fault of sobriety .
There are good sleeping habits we can encourage , no tv or anything too stimulating after 8pm , setting the lights low , no coffee or tea , not eating too late or heavy , having a warm bath and clean sheets ..
If it persists see your Dr , just remember alcohol is not the solution it is one of the reasons why it's all messed up .

I am also an insomnia sufferer. Sober or drunk. 3:30am right now. I'm not sure what came first, the insomnia or the drinking into the night until I passed out. I pretty much stare at the TV or surf the net until I feel tired but that's much better than drinking.
I too feel for you as sleep is so critical in life, I would encourage you to speak with your doc, in my own case and my experience talking to others in detox, it takes weeks for many of us to get back on schedule, there are non-addictive short term use sleeping aid's that can and do help and they are not expensive.
Wishing you the best

I go through periods of insomnia too, both sober and drunk like Wastinglife. I do find it easier to sleep if i'm not caught up in my own thoughts, so a distraction is always nice. Hope you get some rest soon.
