Liver enzymes raised

Hi everyone,

I hope that you're all keeping well,

I've had my liver function test results back today and the Dr says that mine are slightly raised at 57. She says that it will repair itself in time as long as I stay off the booze.

I'm not too familiar about Liver enzymes. Does anyone know anything about the subject?

Thank you,

Bruno.

That would have been a great question for your doctor.

I asked her, she said not to worry about it as long as I stick to my plan.

The word "raised" does concern me though.

That's why I've put the question out to fellow alcoholics

I know people here have gotten them down to normal levels with dedicated abstinence. How long have you been sober?

I guess you could google it. But take your doctor's advice. Stay sober, don't worry.

As long as you stay sober you will be fine.

The Dr wasn't concerned,so no need for you to be Bruno.

Stick to your plan Bruno and keep off the booze. Your liver enzymes should improve with time. I was first told my liver enzymes were high, didn't stop drinking so it progressed into Fatty Liver. After about 12 months of not drinking, my blood work came back all clear; including liver enzymes.

Stick to your plan. You're doing great.

I've also read that a poor diet can have negative effects on your liver.

We are up against it from every angle

Hi Bruno
There are lots of good books and articles on liver health that can help you better understand healthy steps beyond quitting alcohol to speed things up. A healthy diet and modest exercise will help on so many levels... Good for the body and the brain.
Take care,
Jonathan

Congratulations on your sober time! My liver enzymes were slightly raised, but all was well after retests a few weeks later. Actually, that was a big wake-up call for me. Not at that moment, I went right back to drinking after getting the all-clear signal, and drank for two more months. Better judgment finally prevailed in September, 2014.

Routine blood work is no longer a nail biter waiting for results, like it was when I drank. I was always afraid the liver panel would be abnormal. And yet I continued to drink alcoholically. I feel very fortunate that common sense finally hit me over the head
