Maybe someone can help.
Haven't been too active on the forum lately, but I read daily. I am having a big problem getting motivated and/or being inspired to get going. I can't explain it. I've been pretty driven my whole life, and at the moment I'm just being plain lazy, uninspired, and not seeing "the bright side" of life. I hope it is temporary. Any inspirational links would be appreciated. I'm not a "rah-rah" type of person. I like the gritty down on his luck type of person who fought his entire way to the top.
ps: one thing I've always kept in mind, "if you want something to get done, give it to a busy person". And at the moment, I'm not a busy person.
Please don't tell me I have way too much time on my hands,,,I'm fully aware of that.

I think you could probably benefit from some counseling with all that's gone on lately. You had mentioned that before, did you follow through?
Are you still drinking? That will definitely kill motivation even if it's not every day.
Volunteering is a great suggestion too

This 4 part documentary on alcoholism really motivated ME last night. It's new.

First thought -- physical movement. If you're being sedentary, force yourself up and do something modestly physical like speed-clean your place for 30 minutes. Movement is a good attitude adjuster.
Another idea -- Pick one important thing that needs your attention. Something that makes you think you'd rather tweeze your nose hairs than deal with it. Give it one hour of your undivided attention.
I think the bottom line is you need to try to force yourself into a short little burst of activity. Try one of these micro-bursts once a day or so and see if you can't reverse the trend in a few days.
Good luck and be sure to report back!!
When I am drinking I cannot really do much, but it feels like I am doing something, well probably because the drink takes away most feeling for me. When I stop drinking I can do normal activities again.
I totally get the unmotivated part. It's also seasonal I believe. I was really bummed out and in a dark place in December. I'm a lot better now, but still fluctuating between drinking and not. Always worse when I'm drinking. I probably get 1/4 what I get done when I'm drinking, and believe a level of productivity provides good psychological and physical response, if even to pay the bills.
I make a list and break it down into smaller goals.
I start doing the little ones and check them off as I complete them.
Scott made an important observation--if you are drinking,
you need to stop.
Drinking does not motivate people.
If you aren't drinking but still feeling really depressed and demotivated,
I would get some therapy to try to figure out what's behind it.
I did a short course of cognitive therapy with very good results after quitting.
Are you back in the gym yet?
Can you swim or do something cardio that isn't weight-bearing as you are healing?
Lack of intense physical exercise is extremely depressing for some people.
I am a basket case without sweating.
Start posting again Jeff. . .

Here in the 'Cuse, where we get more snow than Alaska, lots of us do this. A few minutes of warmth, light, and vitamin D work wonders!

I agree TT, its dead of winter and its just the toughest time of year to feel full of energy. We can't use that as an excuse though, right? Good job on getting to the gym 3 times.
