Losing/Forgiving/Strength

I'm road-tripping for work today. Flipping stations in the car I came across TWO songs from the thick of things with my XAH a few years back. I'm in such a better, different place today, but they took me back. If I could link Youtube versions I would, but I have little talent So here are the lyrics. I hope one of them might help someone today...it does get better!!!

This first one came on when I was in the car with my good friend. Partway through it she grabbed my hand and just looked at me...I added it to my playlist...and always tried to think of myself through a best friend's eyes...

I Would Be Stronger Than That"

There's a friend who will call
When her husband's asleep
Crossing the phone lines for comfort
And she cries that she needs him and
Someday he'll change
And now's not a good time to go
And it isn't my place to say leave him and run
That no love is worth all the damage he's done
But if she'll hold her ground
Then I'll hold my tongue
Ever the diplomat
Oh, I'd like to think
That I would be stronger than that

Where's her head
Where's her nerve
Does part of her think this is all she deserves
Oh, I would be stronger
I would not stay one minute longer
I would be stronger than that

It started out good they usually do
Then one day it's taken for granted
'Til words become weapons and love turns to pain
Oh, why is she still holding on
She says living without him is too hard to face
And I try to imagine myself in her place
But with well chosen words and well placed tears
She forgives him in two seconds flat
Oh, I'd like to think
That I would be stronger than that

Where's her head
Where's her nerve
Does part of her think this is all she deserves
Oh, I would be stronger
I would not stay one minute longer
I would be stronger than that

I know what she's thinking and I know what she'd say
That my life and her life are like night and like day
And her love is the love that will save him
Brave words but I don't believe them

Where's her head
Where's her nerve
Does part of her think this is all she deserves
Oh, I would be stronger
I would not stay one minute longer
I would be stronger than that

Oh, I would be stronger
I would not wait one minute longer
I would be stronger than that

This one was more geared toward managing my anger and working towards loving myself enough to let it go. I listened to it every day multiple times to help learn to forgive for myself, not waiting for an apology.

"Losing"

I can't believe what she said
I can't believe what he did
Oh, don't they know it's wrong, yeah?
Don't they know it's wrong, yeah?
Maybe there's something I missed
But how could they treat me like this?
It's wearing out my heart
The way they disregard

This is love, this is hate...
We all have a choice to make

Oh, Father won't You forgive them?
They don't know what they've been doin' (oh no)
Oh, Father, give me grace to forgive them
'Cause I feel like the one losin'

Well it's only the dead that can live
But still I wrestle with this
To lose the pain that's mine
Seventy times seven times
'Cause Lord it doesn't feel right
For me to turn a blind eye
Though I guess it's not that much
When I think of what You've done.

This is love, this is hate...
We've got a choice to make

Oh, Father won't You forgive them?
They don't know what they've been doin' (oh no)
Oh, Father, give me grace to forgive them
'Cause I feel like the one losin'

Oh, no!

Why do we think that hate's gonna change their heart?
We're up in arms over wars that don't need to be fought
But pride won't let us lay our weapons on the ground
We build our bridges up but just to burn them down
We think pain is owed apologies and then it'll stop
But truth be told it doesn't matter if they're sorry or not
Freedom comes when we surrender to the sound
Of mercy and Your grace, Father, send Your angels down

[x2]
Oh, Father won't you forgive them?
They don't know what they've been doin' (oh no)
Oh, Father, give me grace to forgive them
'Cause I feel like the one losin'
Yeah, I feel like I've been losing

Oh, Father, give me grace to forgive them
'Cause I feel like the one losin'
I feel like I've been losin'

Oh, Father, give me grace to forgive them
'Cause I feel like the one losin'

Praying-oh friend-you and me both. I listen to "losing" all the time-one of my favorite songs. It's funny how songs will take you back or take on a whole new meaning when you listen to them after moving on. I tried to listen to our wedding song a few weeks ago and just about vomited-it was all lies-all of it. And that song has never sounded the same since almost three years ago-I had set up a Christmas gift for my then husband for us to get away by ourselves-I booked a room at the hotel we got married at and had our song cued up in my car so we could go down memory lane while driving to the hotel. Hubby decided to get drunk and bitch me out and tell me how stupid I was for booking a hotel room and that he didn't want to go. Next morning apologized profusely, but the damage was done. Not fixable. Ruined. That song now carries the scars of really good love gone bad-and I cannot bear to listen to it. It's too hard. BUT at leaSt I'm not living that life anymore-that's no longer my reality. Things DO and can change if we find the courage to change our circumstances and not fear the unknown!

Tangent, I know. All this to say that good for you for being far enough away to have closure. Songs are powerful-and you'll probably find more songs and changing tastes as you grow and change yourself!
Peace to you

Praying, here is a link to a video w/lyrics for Faith Hill doing "I Would Be Stronger Than That" (several artists perform it, not sure which one you heard on the radio):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=128sDWzzdFU

Here is a link to the video for "Losing" (only found one performance of this):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHcVTbyJqis

If you know how to copy and paste, you can add links--send me a PM if you'd like quick instructions!

Thanks for the links, you make it sound so easy....I'll try next time.

Faith Hill is the version I heard...so pretty and tormenting and truthful all at the same time!
