another one with 2 years...
I wasn't going to post this. However, it would be a disservice to the newcomers if I didn't post my 2 year anniversary.
Regardless of the struggles you face in the beginning, do not give up.
I read purpleknight's post when he hit 2 years and thought, he could write mine for me.
I was waiting for FreeOwl to post since we share the same date.
We all may not have chosen the same path to 'recovery', but we all share similar methods and how we went about it. The important thing is that we didn't give in when our AV was tempting us.
Do whatever you must to stay the course. You never have to drink again.
It is a choice. Relapse is NOT a part of recovery, it only prolongs the agony. Get sober, then fix whatever else ails you. If you can do it by reading a book or if you need the help of a group setting, do whatever you must. For me, SR was an invaluable resource during the times I was struggling.
In time, the things that bothered you in the past will seem inconsequential when you finally get your head on straight. You'll see things in an entirely different perspective.
It does get better. And it is well worth the effort. Soon you will understand and wonder why you waited so long.
You are worth it!
I really liked what PK had to say so I hope he doesn't mind that I link his post here. Please read it.

Thank you for the wonderful post. I'm about six months behind you so I've been watching you and your story during my whole time of sobriety and you have been both an inspiration and a guiding light.
I appreciate your Straightforward way you discuss sobriety.

A major milestone indeed, and thank you so much for sharing. Hearing your message is very important for those just starting out and those who have many years of sobriety. Thank you for all of your contributions to SR over those 2 years as well.
