Here I am
Here I am
I found this forum yesterday and wish I would have found it sooner. Here's a brief recent recap of my current status. After attending an in patient program a year ago I find myself having bad relapses recently. I've been in the hospital for alcohol poisoning 3 times over the past month and a half and I'm concerned that if I don't truly come to terms with my condition that it will kill me. I know that everyone has there story and it seems like a good supportive place to share so I'm glad to be here.
I'm really not quite sure what is causing the relapses maybe it's just a case of not giving a $/@&, but I've got to do things differently to get through this difficult time.
I plan on actively posting an a source of support when meetings are not available.

Welcome to SR strong.... Not sure what's causing your relapses? Addiction.
I hope you will be here a lot. This is my main source of support and you will see many here who have made living sober a reality. You can too. I am sure of that.
There are many ways to go about it. Keep an open mind. An open heart. And you will get there.
Picture your drinking voice. Now picture it in a steel cell not able to hurt you any more. Now walk away.

Welcome strongtoolong
I didn't give too hoots about myself either, but a funny thing happened here at SR...the more I cared for others here, the more I started to care for myself.
The same thing happened in my real life when I started to volunteer in my community.
There's no hole so deep you can't start to climb out of it.
Do you have a recovery plan at all?

Welcome to SR!
My advice is that you definitely need to formulate a plan for your sobriety, but don't get overwhelmed. IMO, it is very easy to get bogged down with the plan, and not see the beauty of your sober life. Take small steps to get to where you want to be. I know I have a Type A personality and everything needs to be 110% perfect or I think I am failing. This may not be your personality, but if it is, be careful.
Good luck!

Welcome strongtoolong! The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step at a time.
Putting a plan in place is key to helping keep you accountable. does your employer have a confidential Employee Assistance program you can access? I started there to get counseling sessions set up and am on SR daily.

I too am a perfectionist to a fault. I need to learn how to be more patient and kinder to myself!
Update
Well I've developed an initial recovery plan. Step one is to check into an inpatient program which I was informed today that the application was approved. Now I'm just waiting on a bed which should be available by the end of this week. This evening will be spent packing and getting my things together so I can be ready to go when I get the call.
Hopefully I'll be allowed to have access to my phone so that I can post and read more of the resources available on this site. I'm ready to go so that I can get on with a new life.

So much to say....
I will be in touch and I have so much to share with y'all, but right now it's like the flood gates have opened. I don't want to verbally vomit all of my emotions this early because I know that I have a long way to go and much to learn before I can probably speak intelligently on where I'm coming from and where I'm heading!
So good to meet you, strongtoolong. Believe me, we all understand what you're going through. Share what you want, when you want - you're among friends who care. I'm very glad you found us.
