Need advice

Started a detox at home and couldn't make it through day 2. Started again today with Librium from my doctor. Worried and afraid of all the stuff I read on the Internet. I live alone and just want to know what to expect and if anyone else has done the detox at home?

Welcome to SR, Scroooloose.

I detoxed at home but did not have serious withdrawals.

Did you share with your doctor how much you were drinking and your experience on your last day 1; did he/she feel that you would be okay alone?

Yes I shared everything. And doctor said I could try detoxing at home but will reevaluate me on Saturday to see if I need to be admitted. My wD symptoms were intolerable by the end of day 2. So let's see if the Meds help. Thanks for responding... Just knowing I can reach out helps

Push through the discomfort! I'm glad you talked to your doctor.

We're here when you start feeling squirrely - post and talk it out.

Do you have a friend who could stay with you for a few days?

Every detox is different and no doubt some can be serious.

No one that is nearby. Keeping it secret from most family and friends

Welcome scroooloose. Don't be afraid to call emergency if things get bad. Detox can be dangerous.

Welcome to the Forum Scroooloose!!

Everyone is different unfortunately, so it's difficult to predict, but we have to start somewhere and be sure to check in with a Dr if things get too rough.

You can do this, and you never have to go through this ever again, only the once!!

Hi! I think you will be ok as long as you stay in touch with your doctor.
It was very smart of you to see the doctor and have a medically supervised detox, very smart

Scroooloose, glad you reached out here. Can you pick out a friend or neighbor you would be willing to call for help if you really get sick? You could maybe just text that person saying you feel a little bum and wondered if they were going to be around this weekend.

Thinking about you and I hope you'll let us know how you are.

Hi and welcome scrooloose

I think most of the horror stories are from people like me who didn't see a Dr at all. You have, and together you've worked out an appropriate treatment.

It sounds to me like you've ticked all the boxes so try not to worry - and remember going back to your Dr or the ER is always an option if you get concerned

D

You definitely did the right thing talking to your doctor. Librium is a common medication taken in treatment centers to minimize withdrawals. It should really make things easier for you, but everybody's different, so call your doctor if things get tough. John

Hi and welcome! You should see a marked difference in your symptoms with the Librium. Ive done it both ways and there is a HUGE difference! Just make yourself as comfortable as you can and keep hydrated.

When you're ready, and hopefully soon make sure you tell them.

It's nothing to be afraid or ashamed of.
You will find that most people can be very supportive.

It's really really hard to do this alone.

Checking in. The medicine does help... It's still a rough time. Tomorrow is day 3. Not feeling up to talking or writing. My thoughts and emotions are all over the place. Can't concentrate and spent 50% of my day on the couch and 50 in the bathroom sick. I'll write again tomorrow

Keep pushing through!!!!

You are almost through the rough withdrawal period. Do you have a plan yet?

Glad it's less bad this time. Keep your eye on the prize and be proud. You are doing this!!!
