Day 7: Emotions

When I get through today it will be one week. That was my initial goal, one week. I have decided to go another week, one day at a time, not focusing on the larger picture yet (complete sobriety for life). I don't want to think about that so I'm not. I'm going to get through today without wine. I have random bouts of agitation, confusion, and anxiety. Even anger and sadness at times. Then I feel nothing at all, (dissociation perhaps). Trying to breath through it. Went to church this morning. That helped clear my head quite a bit. I even turned down the church wine and went for the grape juice.

So this afternoon is going to be a tough one at home so I'm going to stay busy. I'm shopping and then when I get home I'm going to do the dishes, read, maybe come here.

Anyone else have dreams that you're drinking? I had one a couple nights ago. Woke up and thought I slipped. Lol

I have had drinking dreams, I guess that is normal for peole like us where drinking was such a big part of our lives. I think it is normal to have them.

I hope you have a good day, I was right where you are not to long ago. Your anxiety will only improve the longer you abstain from alcohol.

Yep, had a couple during withdrawal phase. Always that I drank by mistake. Would jolt awake on a panic.

Her name is Luna and she is Burmese which is part Siamese, my kitty definitely helps me relax and unwind.

I too have dreams about *trying* to get pot. But I think I never smoke it.
Same with beer.

First off, if you need a dr., see one. I get emails for for offering medical advice.

You are over the detox phase for the most part. Now you must deal w the craving.

You have to remember, the buzz lasts for 20 minutes per drink. Then you get the hangover that lasts hours or days. Be proud of your sobriety.

Use your analytical mind to defeat the crave. It gets easier each time.

Eat clean, hydrate, sleep. Your brain is healing. You have to get used to feeling normal.

Pray.

I feel good for the most part. Just trying to fill up my time. If I'm bored, then I'll obsess about it. I didn't drink enough to have physical withdrawal.

Good for you. You're doing great. And yes, drinking dreams are very common for alcoholics.

Thanks. To reward myself for this week, I bought myself a bottle of Chanel no. 5 which I've been wanting for a while now.

Hmm, speaking of Siamese cats...

I'm glad you're doing well and getting through the emotional stuff. Good plan to focus on the day and let the big picture work itself out.

Your approach sounds very similar to mine. I've tried counting days, setting milestones etc...But what has worked is just tackling it each day. Alcohol is the only thing I approach that way. Almost everything else is done with goals and plans etc...
With alcohol, today is all that matters.
