Hi everyone
Alcohol has left me a wreck, physically and mentally.
Last night I drank around 12 pints, woke up, threw up, and decided I've had enough .
I started drinking while going through some problems and the problems left and the alcohol stayed, taking my dignity and humanity. I've somehow kept my job through all this and I've not hit bottom. But I can sense it coming.
I cannot afford to fail. It's sobriety or death, either my organs will fail or I'll end up jumping off something very tall (nothing like a depressant for mental illness!)
Quitting weed as well, started smoking it to replace alcohol and well... that was dumb.
I was someone else before all this and I can get back there.
This is it.

You're not shackled to not drinking, you're free from drinking

Reaching out is a good first step. Now it's time to stop. That's not easy and you'll need a lot of tools and hard work to be successful. There's a lot of good information on this site and that's a great place to start your journey. Good luck!

My first day sober is going fairly well so far, no major withdrawal symptoms as of yet and I was easily a 100 unit a week guy. Got a doctors appointment tomorrow to check for liver/kidney issues. But right now I feel a little tired and anxious and that's all. My thoughts are fuzzy. I'm feeling positive.
Welcome to SR Resetti and congratulations on deciding to quit.
First few days will probably be tough but good idea going to see your GP. He/she may give you something to relieve symptoms and will probably get you to do a blood test. Drinking plenty of water is important too (don't think that counts as medical advice)
Good luck on your journey

Hi Resetti, if or when you feel the urge and feel like you are going to give in to your AV, go back and read your original post from this thread, its pretty powerful....and you wrote it. If you take your own advice, you should be fine.
