hi
Hey everyone.
I have posted a couple of times. I am on my 71st day sober.. and the brain fog is beginning to be a little too much for me to handle. The constant feeling of being spacey and off is really starting to affect me and bring me down. It has literally turned me into a hypersensitive hypochondriac. It is extremely hard for me to stay level headed and complete tasks. I am sensitive to light, the fog gets worse when it is hot outside. It is just really hard because when i try to better myself and workout about 10 minutes in the fog kicks in hard and stops me in my tracks..
I am about ready to just give up.

I hate the fog too. I'm on day 50 so I know I've got plenty of it left to go through. I'm in a new city now and I'm having a very hard time remembering how to get around without using my GPS... I actually *need* my to do lists or I will completely forget things... but for me the worst is just sometimes feeling like there's a layer of cotton between me and the world, like I'm just dreaming and everything is sort of quiet and subdued.
I don't have much advice except don't give up... just like grief and injuries, there's no negotiating with the healing process. Time just has to pass. 71 days is a huge way to come, don't start back from 1.
I actually find that exercise helps me snap out of it... have you tried hanging on through the fog that kicks in when you start?

Frana: Congratulations on 71 days of sobriety! I know the symptoms you describe can be problematic; but you’ve come too far to quit now. Based on what I’ve heard and read it is not abnormal to experience symptoms of alcohol withdrawal for several months after you stop drinking. They should go away over time.
I know you have seen a doctor already, but you might need a follow up visit with your MD just to make sure that you don’t have some other underlying condition that may need treatment.
Keep up the good work and stay strong!!!

Hi Frana! Sorry you are feeling bad at 71 days. That is such an accomplishment though. I too am feeling a bit off at near 2 months sober, they say it can take quite awhile sometimes to get right again after drinking. I suppose one way of looking at it is that it took awhile to get here so it will take awhile to undo. We are with you.

Congratulations on the great progress Frana! I know that feeling you're describing all too well. There times when I felt totally inept at work because I couldn't follow what was going in meetings. It was a pretty helpless feeling, and I was starting to wonder if I'd done some permanent brain damage. But it's gotten infinitely better over time-- not just the acuity, but also general sense of well-being. It's worth that period of loopiness for sure!
Congrats. You are fully clean after that time.
I vote, take it easy on the excercise.
That was/is messing me up. Tons of energy, but your brain is still healing.
The fog slowly dissipates. Then comes the anxiety.
But, at least you know it is normal.
Eating healthy helps. Vitamins. Drink water. Sleep, sleep...repeat...

I'm seriously impressed with your Drs because I've never found one who has heard of it, let alone believe in it Frana.
The good news is there are some great ideas on how to cope with PAWs here
