new to your forum

Hi ,

I wish to introduce myself .

Im a male 58 from UK and having my first day sober after a 6 day bender on holiday . I was in AA for 2 years and done great unti I thought I could try to drink sociably but it didn,t work that way .
On my days off work ( I work 4 days on 4 days off) I drink for 3 of them then a day to try and get sorted for work , now even one day isnt enough to dry out as im still rattling after day 4 . its a vicious cycle . The thing is as im getting a bit older im finding it harder to get beter after a binge .
I intend to go back to AA but also wish to join an online support site like this .

Thanks for listening and best wishes to you all especially if your struggling .

Hi Tam, welcome.
Do you manage to stay off the drink while you do four days work? Maybe if you do, that's something you can use to get sober? your body can cope for four days without, try 5 and then 6??
Be well,
x

Welcome Tam! Many of us did the same thing...thinking we could somehow "moderate" or "drink socially" after an extended period of sobriety, but we found the same result as you. Glad to hear you are back to try again, and I think using AA as well as SR is a very good plan. Hope you can stick around and join us!

Hi Tam, i just joined today aswell, am on my 6th day sober and after various attempts at stopping i am beginning to realise i will never be able to drink socially. I have lost my job through my actions whilst under the influence of alcohol. Hope we can both stay sobar. Best of luck

Welcome, Tam. It definitely gets harder to recover from drinking as we get older. I'm glad you found us.

Welcome to SR, TamUK, and congrats on choosing a better way of life. I highly suggest joining and actively participating in the Class of August thread found on this same forum. It's a great way to learn from and help others who are early in sobriety.

Glad you're here and glad you're going back to the rooms!! The coffee's still lukewarm but the fellowship will warm your heart both here and in AA!

Most importantly, the steps work if you work them

Thanks to each and every one of you for your kind welcome . Jeremy well done for 6 days sober and im glad you realize that alcohol cant be part of your life . I realized that a while ago but acted foolishly and picked it back up .
Ive had a fright this time though I had to get my loving wife to medicate me with small amounts to wean me off over 2 days then get diazepam from GP to quite my nerves but the depression and anxiety is so bad I could scream .

Thanks again all x
