I have no experience with acceptance speeches but my gut tells me that I would want to focus on the people who were instrumental in my sobriety - special words of encouragement that they offered; inspirational stories that they shared; the times they came to your side to support you - those kinds of events.

Good luck and congratulations on four years, jita.

Welcome to SR.

Not much advice on the speech. I guess your experiences, who and what helped, any advice you have. How has your life changed. Mainly wanted to say well done on 4 years.

Experience, Strength, and Hope?

Guessing, based on my experience of others' "speeches."

I'm not sure why you have to say more than, "Thank you." I think anything more is up to you.

Congrats!

They will want to know how you did it. Just tell them how you did it...straight from the heart!

"What it was like, what happened to propel one into sobriety, and what it is like now."

That's my fave form of es&h, anyway.

I'm curious, but what is an acceptance speech? Is this an AA thing about "acceptance" of alcoholism? With four years sober, it sounds like you long ago accepted your problem with alcohol.

BTW congrats on four years sober.

4 years is great, well done!!!

Hmm, so is this AA??! I've never seen anyone give an "acceptance" speech. Maybe this is something else, perhaps.

In AA the recipient of a chip > 1 years (in the groups around here) are simply asked - "Tell us how you did it?"

Typically then it's very short - I can't, He can, I need to let Him - with a brief thumbnail of esh......It is usually the epitome of humility in my experience and not like getting an award.

Tell ya what - you could practice here!!!

How'd you do it??!?!

I think it's about accepting the chip for the four years sober. I would just say thank you and maybe note any special things that have happened to you while sober.

Congrats on four years!

The talks that always inspire me are the ones with personal experiences of how it was, what happened, and how it is now.

Well done on 4 years!

If you've worked the steps and have had a spiritual experience as a result of working those steps, it's about experience, strength, and hope of staying stopped.....
