I am doing well and staying sober by following suggestions and not drinking. I was feeling a bit hungry, angry, and tired this afternoon. The AV was starting to be a real annoyance. So...drinking wasn't an option. Instead, I came home, ate something, put my feet up and took a rest. After that I did a short, but awesome yoga session and feeling back to 100%. Hope everyone is doing well tonight!
There's always someone in recovery
to talk to, to unload whatever is bothering
us before we ever have to pick up a drink
or drug.
Life will always continue on but we don't have
to succumb to its frustrations, aggrivations,
stress, unknown, highs or lows, with trying
to numb it, drown it with poison or mind altering
substances.
Coming here to share with us is the perfect
example of HOW IT WORKS in following
thru and remaining sober.
No one has to fall thru the cracks of
addiction but we can rise above it
with incorporating tools and knowledge
of a recovery program to become stronger,
healthier, happier, honest in all areas of
our life for many one days at a time to come.
Good Job..!!!!!!

Hey jazz!
It's amazing how when drinking just isn't an option we can find other ways to settle ourselves down. It takes mindfulness and practice to form new habits. Well done on rationally working through the issue and resolving it sans alcohol!

How do you get to the point where you can do your own yoga?
Lol-- I don't know, been taking it for a few months now and I still can't even remember the sun salute on my own. Yeah I don't know if it's reasonable to think I'll ever do stuff at home--I have 20+ cats and hardwood floors but I have brought the breathing and other relaxation stuff into stressful situations. I am going to try to incorporate some of it into my regular exercise routine too--the mats at the gym are good.

Hi Jazz, it took a while for the penny to drop but I realised that my body's default reaction to hunger, stress, fatigue was 'have a glass of wine', even if that wasn't a direct remedy. So jumping in fast to drink water, eat and rest usually got rid of a craving.

Man, it's great to read of your successful Strategy! Rinse and repeat...
Eons ago, I read this explanation about how Christmases seem so far apart when you're a Kid, but the years seem to fly by when you're older. As we live longer, each year is a smaller increment of all the time we've lived. So, any individual year can seem to really blow by sometimes.
Fast forward to continued Sobriety... Once we've surfed through momentary urges - as you did so well - and the number of such successes add up, I find that any given individual 'Urge Event' represents a smaller bump in continued Sobriety. The first few such Events/Challenges can seem like a big damned deal. After we knock through 20 or 50 of them, each one represents a smaller fraction of all the successful Events we've mastered, and remained Sober through. I just 'chill' through them.
Glad to hear of your successes! It ain't easy. But, it is simple...

Thanks, MesaMan. It's funny. Yesterday, I calculated the percentage each sober day has as we progress.
Day is 100%
Day 2 is 50%
Day 10 is 10%
Day 100 is 1%
Day 365 is about 0.2%
No big insights. I just found it interesting how each sober day quickly becomes a smaller percentage of the total sober experience.

My yoga teacher says there's lots of stuff on you tube--I should check it out. I'm wondering if there's stuff on on demand too. The cats are ok except they spray and it's hard to leave something like a yoga mat around and not expect to get targeted. I try to put stuff like that up but it seems it invariably always gets it...
