Question for all the sober women, or anyone who's used alcohol to deal with physical maladies. I have the severe form of pms... and I've used booze to kill the physical and emotional pain that comes with it. How can I get through this time of the month without alcohol?

It's really a huge problem, as it's one of the main reasons why I fall short of the 30-day mark, repeatedly. When I get in that state...I'm almost on auto pilot to the store to get wine.

Any thoughts?

talk with your doctor or try the over the counter meds which seem to work without alcohol!

This was a giant problem for me for years. I continuously cycled on low-dose birth control which helped with the mood swings, although I kept drinking. But I might have been able to stop with the continuous cycling if I had tried -- I didn't try. Also you might consider asking your doctor about anti-depressants. Again, I resisted that route, but in retrospect, it would have helped me. The earlier you address this, the better, imo.

It wasn't so bad when I was younger but when I turned 40 it started getting worse. I finally asked the doctor for some help. He put me on Celexa and it was a huge improvement. Probably one of the reasons it helped so much is that I slept well when I took it. I am not taking anything now and am doing OK. It was a lot calmer on it though. That messed up sleep cycle on top of the hormones is a killer.
