checking in 3.5 months

Hi all,
Just checking myself in here. It has been 3.5 months since I touched alcohol. I had one slip up with MDMA, however, it solidified my commitment with abstinence. I realized I can have just as much fun sober as anyone on drugs or drunk. I have continued to go to live shows and abstain. I got a tattoo on my arm signifying insight. Insight into myself, my emotions, my behaviors, and learning to accept myself has been my greatest strength this far. I have lost 12 pounds from working out regularly (replicates a high for me).

One thing I battle with regularly is loneliness. Getting F&^%ED up was a social event (at the end it was more of self-destructive benders). Now I find myself craving the 'connection' I had with people in bars even though I know they weren't real. I still have anxiety and notice I get real ramped up some days and those used to be the days I'd go put as much coke and booze into my body as possible.. Insight has given me the connection to myself that disables that.

Anyways I just wanted to check in, and if anyone is in their beginning of recovery IT IS POSSIBLE!!! However, it isn't just 'quitting drinking' it is a lifestyle change, and requires (in my experience) you to re-frame your whole outlook and perspective on things.
Thanks for reading!!

Congrats on the 3.5 months! That is no small feat given all the changes your mind and body go through when becoming sober. Good news is that every month gets better and better. Keep on keepin' on!

Well done on 3.5 months. That's great.

You are right that those bar connections are not real. Entertaining for a time but ultimately empty and unfulfilling. It takes time but that gets easier.

As for the anxiety, I get those feelings too sometimes. For me it is usually a combination of too much nicotine, and caffeine on an empty stomach.

Keep going. You're doing great.

Brilliant!

At times I also miss that 'connection' despite it being a hollow experience. More importantly though I've been able to focus and develop other more areas of my life

Keep up the great work
