Day 13
This is by far the longest I’ve gone since my drinking became a problem (late 90s) and I’m really feeling confident. I’m also still feeling tired. I get through the day just fine but by 7pm or so I’m struggling to stay awake. I’m ok with that because it sure beats the heck out of drinking myself to sleep every night. Based on all I’m reading here I may have to deal with the exhaustion for a while more.
I’ve encountered yet another health improvement since quitting. I’ve had problems swallowing over the past few years. I spent a day in the ER one day because of it (I needed an emergency endoscopy to remove a piece of food that was stuck in my esophagus). The diagnosis was eosinophilic esophagitis, which was described to me as a sort of asthma of the esophagus. It could be brought on by food allergy. Since kicking the beer habit, I’ve not noticed any difficulty swallowing.

Well done on 13 days Tomli,
I'm on day 51 - things do get better -but only slowly
As you mention in your post you've been problem drinking since late 90's to it'sgot to take a while. Same for me I guess
I have heard that alcohol can damage the aesophagus lining (I've spelled that wrong for sure!)

woot woot! Your body is healing and when it is healing it takes energy from you. Make sure you are eating and drinking so you have carbs to burn to help heal you. Your body is using all its might to help your body return to the glory days. Your body is waking up from a 20 year drinking habit that has suppressed any healing it could have done.
Think about when you are sick. Even a few days after you feel better you still feel like you got your arse kicked. Thats your body's way of saying,, "Dont over do it, I am still working here."
