Still struggling
Hi guys been back and forth with Alcohol for past few months quitting then starting then stopping
Why is this so hard !! i have kicked every other drug, benzos, opiates, meth but i cannot quit this, i want to though!!
i am Day 2 and feel worse then in past quitting dates.
I am still on Campral but it does not work after a while or it could be my head playing tricks.
Btw AA isnt for me, i just need to do it and stay on here for support.

This is a great place for support, but you've got to do the leg work.
Alcohol is a chronic, relapsing disease. You've quit other drugs you can do this, too.
I'm afraid due to a process called 'kindling' the hangovers will get worse as will you're consumption.
Congratulations on two days. Just don't drink today. Remember how bad you feel after drinking and realize you never have to feel that way again.
Best to you.

Well done two days, azza.
I think we have to keep in mind why we are doing this -the cravings are very convincing when thy come and it "seems" like total logic to have a drink.
But it's not, it's the addiction talking, and it's crucial to keep that in mind.
I also quit other drugs relatively easily, but you don't have to go see a dealer for booze, it's freely accessible, which makes it more difficult.
As Ghostlight said, just concentrate on today. Don't drink today. Know that the addiction is powerful and you must be armed against it.
Distraction is very important, find things to do, go for walks, play games, eat ice cream.
It will get easier. Hang in there.

Hi Azza
I think in the end it comes down to a willingness not to drink, or a willingness to do anything but drink, y'know?
I see you don't feel open to AA, ok - I never did AA either - but what have you been doing for your recovery?
what other changes have you made besides not drinking?
D

Thanks for the replies,
Yep about doing the leg work i sure know that its hard but got to be done, i take each day as it comes
on Day 3 today and no alcohol is in the house even though liquor store is a cartwheel away or lets say a very small walk.. But havent given in, campral is helping i dont get those big urges like i do.. When im not taking it.
i have always been active even as an alcoholic, like exercising most days even hungover.. Afternoons/nights is what gets me, what i did today instead was exercise in the night and kept busy during the day so its a start
