Almost 24 hours
Hi all. I decided that today was the day that I would stop my love affair with wine. I tried to break up with it a few weeks ago, but I let it back in my life, thinking I could control it. Ha. My last glass was at 2:00am....I am feeling so anxious, sad, defeated, tired...guilty...scared...I keep hearing that life is great sober, but I honestly can't imagine a world without a wine glass in my hand.
Hi Ellay, hang in there. It's tough in the beginning.
I couldn't imagine myself without a beer in my hand. Never even crossed my mind.
Now, I don't even think about or consider it anymore. After 35+ years of drinking, I'm sorry I waited so long to get better.

Hi Ellay
I could't imagine that on day one either. By day 30 I thought it might be achievable for some...by day 60 I had a little grain of hope...
by day 90 I was reasonably sure I could give this thing a go
Seven and a half years on I can't imagine living any other way
Stick with it

Congratulations! I can relate to how you're feeling. I'm only 12 days away from my last glass of wine. In the meantime, I've poured two and dumped them out. It is so hard to fathom "never," so I'm going to focus on tonight. By this time in the evening, I would be struggling to hide my drinking from my husband. The fact that I'm not doing that is a pretty good start.
Josharon is so right...dont concentrate on the forever, that is far to overwhelming to comprehend....focus on one day at a time and before you know it you have accomplished your first day and then suddenly your second day and so it goes .... good luck !!
Wine was my poison, too, Ellay. I couldn't imagine life without it, either; problem was I had come to the point where I couldn't imagine life with it either.
As josharon and Julie said, take it one day at a time, baby steps. The days will pass and you will move farther and farther down the path towards sobriety.
Welcome to SR, Ellay; glad you found us.

Downloaded "Diary of an alcoholic housewife" and am winding down with tea. A non hangover day sounds pretty good for tomorrow ....seeing how I had to nap in my car at work today I am so done feeling like this. Thank you all.
24 hours is amazing. So many of us can relate to how monumental one day without alcohol is. I agree with the others, once you start thinking about forever it gets scary and confusing. Right now just think about right now- don't drink this moment.
Another book I would recommend to you is "Drinking: A Love Story" by Caroline Knapp.
Best of luck, stay close here, we understand and can help if you are having cravings.
