Gave Addicted/alcoholic ExBF a third (or was it fourth) chance (against my better judgment) and am now even more heartbroken.... I knew better and yet I went back to familiar, codependent ways. Why do I keep doing this??? I just can't let go a a fantasy.

I think it's a lot like informercials...the longer you listen, the more you become convinced: MAN I GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THESE! that dang Proactive commercial had me wanting to make the call, except that I am a) 54 years old and b) don't HAVE acne. nonetheless I wanted what they promised: Beautiful Clear Smooth Skin.

I lost count how many chances I gave my XAH. Needless to say, the chances ran out and I am now a much happier person.

Ghossier, you may be putting to much emphasis on him. When you start putting your emphasis where it belongs, on your own personal growth and development, you may see a break in that repeated cycle.
