This is what its like to be sober

I'm a little surprised. I've been drinking very heavily for 2 1/2 to 3 years and drinking in general for 4 years. I had forgotten what life without alcohol being the center of it was like.

I went out of town with a non drinking friend and we stayed at her 2 daughters apartment (college girls with 2 room mates). Last night and this morning it is a little weird (hard to explain) of how people live when an alcoholic drink isn't getting poured at day break. It's nice just different. Very hard for me to express how I'm feeling.

This has made me realize I really do have to re-learn how to live alcohol free.

that is true
for alcohol was a bigger part of our lives than we realized

seems most everything I did was either centered on the drink
or the next drink

always thinking ahead -- didn't want to be caught without a drink

wouldn't want to be caught with a drink in my hand today
I have to keep tight watch on that hand

MM

So true!!! My concern was always making sure I had a plan for alcohol. Make sure plenty at the house so when I got to drinking I wouldn't run out. Planning when I would be home as well as rushing to get home for the next day/evening of drinking. It's mind blowing how much time was spent on planning for drinking.
