Hi
I'm Mary, 46 single mum from the uk and been a heavy drinker all my adult life. Alcoholic I guess the last 5 years or so. Just recently I tried to taper and it's taken 3 attempts over 4 weeks but today I'm dry. I'm here to help me stay that way. Happy to talk about the tapering experience, if anyone's interested

Hi Mary and welcome
We actually don't encourage alcohol tapering here, or detailed discussion, as it can be quite dangerous, and often simply doesn't work.
I'm glad you beat the odds tho
Congrats on day one - you'll find a lot of support here, Mary.

Hiya Mary, I found this forum first class for information, experience and fantastic people willing to help us and guide us.
Read the posts and post as many times as you want, the beauty of it, is, any time of the day or night there's someone on earth to talk to.
Personally, I quit, cold turkey, so I have no experience on tapering.
On hindsight I should've had a trip to the docs as I was drinking about 3 bottles of wine a night when I just stopped.

Well done! Glad your tapering went well and like Dee said that you beat the odds. Now like you said it's a question of supporting your recovery, everyday not taking it for granted.
A thing that caught many of us in early recovery attempts was that after a few days/weeks we started to think that since we managed to stop and feeling better physically that we could have one or 2. Same result happened for **.999 of us. We slipped back to or original quantities and in my case, an increase.
Glad you found us and looking forward to reading your experiences.

Hi and welcome Mary.
For the vast majority getting sober results from plain old fashioned just stopping one day at a time. Many do this by exercise daily, stopping the drinking thinking, filling up on sugary drinks and forbidden enjoyableS, drinking lots of water, going to a lot of meetings and a lot of other tips and ideas.
The idea of tapering and moderating our drinking is very tedious and mostly unsuccessful over time.
A good idea is to see your doctor and being honest about your drinking past.
