Might need to find real-life support

I have made huge progress not drinking on weekdays, I'm really struggling on weekends.

Hi NYC, I think a lot of us can relate to that. Have you changed things up a little to occupy that free time?

My very last drinking spell started on a weekend. It lasted 7 days and by the time it and the hangover was over I had went 9 (yes 9) days without a shower. All while partying with myself.

When the struggles start have you tried thinking of what the outcome would be before you picked up drink 1?

I know willpower is easier said then done but with a few changes things can get better.

If you can do it on weekdays you can do it on weekends too

My desire to drink completely mirrors the bar scene. I have no desire to drink Sunday-Wednesday. However, I struggle on weekends. I am not an alcoholic in the sense I need to drink everyday. I have developed a drinking problem though. Fortunately, I have the self-control not to drink on weekdays - but Fridays are too hard for me. I can skip a weekend or two - but then it gets very difficult.

Maybe you can focus now on a foolproof recovery plan for next Friday night?

I went to one AA meeting in the past and I had a neutral experience. One thing I like about this site is there are many people who have conquered alcohol. When I went to AA it felt like some of the people could relapse whenever. The worst part was some people had no desire to quit - one guy talked about how he would do hard drugs later that night. I did like how understanding and supportive people were - but I feel I need to be around more people who have prevailed over alcohol and not addicts who have no desire to change.

I am also very grateful for this site, I probably would have lost my job if it wasn't for the daily check-in threads so I appreciate everyone here.
