A few words of encouragement
Hello everyone,
my name is Sean and I'm an alcoholic.
I just wanted to post a few words of encouragement to those who are starting out on the path to recovery or those who are just back from another attempt at 'normal' drinking.
I was 1 year sober on Sunday and it feels great, It has took me apx 6 years to get this far and I know I'm not recovered yet and I'll never be cured but a life beyond my wildest dreams is just around the corner.
I had a hard time with acceptance and giving up, I tried so many times to be normal, but every time it just got worse.
For me it was a loving God, the fellowship and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous that was turning point, for that I'll be eternally grateful.
My life is 1000 times better today without alcohol and I'm starting to find peace in my head.
I hope you can find a program or a recovery path that works for you and keep chipping away with it.
Please please don't give up hope, it does get a bit easier with time.
Love to all
Sean

Congrats, seanie!! Acceptance and honesty have been my liberators. The program and fellowship of AA is part of what helped me to have the courage to change my attitude towards alcoholism. My fellow AAers have shared, and continue to share, their experience, strength and hope in such relatable ways. What a beautiful fellowship. Here on SR, that spirit of fellowship is shared amongst recovering alcoholics of many programs. It's amazing to behold and an honor to be a part of. Welcome to the forums!
