I'm Doing Step One
I was in Rehab when I was introduced to the 12 Steps. Yes, my workbook ( given to the all the ladies ) had a few pages of questions on Steps 1 - 3. I was also required to write a goodbye letter to my love (alcohol). LOTS of writing in Recovery ( to qualify, MY Recovery). I've kept a diary since 6th grade, so not a stretch for me.

With the doctors opinion, Bills Story, and chapters 2 and three, we can find out what alcoholism is and whether it is our problem.
Once we have the information we can take step one, the instructions for which are on page 30. " we learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost selves that we were alcoholic. This is the first step in recovery. The delusion that we are like other people, or presently maybe, has to be smashed."
The last sentence is what tripped me up repeatedly. What it means is can I see the true nature of my problem, which is that I can never ever drink safely.
I am an alcoholic and can never drink safely. In that statement lies the true motivation for the rest of the steps.
The AA program as described on the Big Book is very simple. Some rehabs and some sponsors like to make a meal of it, but for most alcoholics of my type, it's a no brainer.

Nope. Step 1 only has to be accepted
My sponsor read it to me and explained it out of the BB, she knew which chapters were step 1.
If I had questions or comments I could make them
She was awesome
I cried through the whole thing then moved on to step 2

we can find out what alcoholism is and whether it is our problem.
"(a) That we were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives." (Step1)
"(b) That probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism." (Step2)
"(c) That God could and would if He were sought." (Step 2)
Then he writes: "Being convinced, we were at Step Three....."
In the original manuscript he said if you are still not convinced, re-read the
first 60 Pages and if not then convinced, throw the book out. - Or words to
that effect.
Some folks got a questionnaire type thing from their sponsors and some didn't. Some say you shouldn't. Some say you should. Neither is wrong. If it helps you, do it.
Congrats on your new journey doll!

Never got any sort of survey, personally... my sponsor simply had me make two lists: one detailing the ways in which I had become powerless over alcohol, and another about the ways that my life had become unmanageable. Having it on paper gave me no way to talk myself out of it.
