Paranoid

Did anyone else reach the paranoia stage in drinking? I literally feel like everyone is watching me and listening to me. Is that a side effect of quitting?

I never experienced paranoia , but I have learned that many people experience different strains of symptoms during abstaining, I'm sure it will pass like all others do eventually.
Well done.

Congrats!! This forum has helped me stick with it. I bet it's helping you too, yes? I've quite several times before but always went back. This time feels different because of all those "gifts of imperfection" books by. Brenee Brown that I just read and how I don't want to numb away my happiness. It's so damn hard because you feel worse has your neuro transmitters heal back to heathy. Kind of like working out for the first time. But it gets easier. day 3 was the hardest for me. We went out to a show. A glass a wine would have been perfect! Ohhh the discomfort. But it passed and I'm proud of myself! You can do it

I think it is a part of drinking. When I quit my paranoia went away.

I am on, like, day 5 or 6 and I feel paranoid.

Probably because I was taken from law school to an in-patient detox facility by my parents.

Yep, raging paranoia the last few years of a nearly 30-year drinking career. Along with anxiety, high blood pressure and a whole host of other problems. All of them eventually went away with continued sobriety.

Hi BeHappy.

Yes, I was always looking over my shoulder & thought people were talking about me. They probably were. I was a wreck. It all got better & now I never have those feelings. Things will not stay this intense.

It was a characteristic of my alcoholism when I reached a certain point.
It became part of my immediate withdrawal too.

I hope you'll feel better soon
