The "Good" ole days....
I was looking through old pictures last night and came across this one of one of my family's many partying days. I guess this what they mean when they say "a picture speaks 1,000 words"....

Thanks for sharing that, jacrazz. Old pics like that help me be grateful for having survived my insane family of origin.
One of the issues I struggled with when I first got into recovery was self-doubt. I had a lot of those "it wasn't that bad", and "they did the best they could" kind of brain-washing going on in my head. I had been out of that family for about 10 years when I bumped into a friend that knew me from childhood. She happened to have tons of pictures from our school days and we spent a couple of afternoons sifting thru boxes and boxes of pics looking for just us.
There weren't that many of me, but like the pic you posted, I could clearly see what an injured child I was. Yes, it _was_ that bad, and whether they did the best they could did not matter. In my case it wasn't my parents best actions that were damaging ( or the best they could do ), it was their _worst_ actions that did the damage.
Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten all about my own "pictures that speak 1000 words".
