Running and drinking

Hi,

I have been drinking about 3 days a week but managed to go for long runs every know and then. Am determined to quit drinking because it really is a problem in my life. And it canīt be good for the heart to drink as hell one day and the run 10-20km other days. Every now and then I read about young people, non-drinkers - dying when excersising from some undetected heart problems. I am quite scared, running helps me stay sober, but maybe the drinking has screwed up my body. I will go see my doctor and I am not looking for medical advise, I am just having a bad day and needed to vent.

Long runs of dryness means nothing.
Cant be good for the heart, liver, pancreas, wallet, spouse, spirit, emotions.
Nothing "Out-There" keeps us sober, it comes from within.
Doctor visit would be good.
I find face-to-face talking with other human beings to be the best.

Long runs as in running on the streets, not long runs of dryness unfortunately..

While smile amounts of ethanol actually are good for your heart and arteries, binges are absolutely not. And if you are an alcoholic, heart healthy doses really aren't a feasible goal. There are better ways to take care of your health.

I'm sure the mix isn't good for the heart but running does help with staying sober well for me it does anyway. When I get hit by cravings I run until the urges pass. Friday it took 7 miles to get there but it helps! Keep working out & setting goals for yourself! I know you can do this!

quit drinking altogether.

Keep runniong.

You'll find that the running will turn around the damage the drinking wrought.

I love running and it has definitely helped me in sobriety and helped my body come back from the effects of decades of binge drinking.

A guy in my home group was a binge-drinking, deep-in-the-hole alcoholic many years ago. He's been an ultramarathoner now for over 20 years.

Running is a great outlet for us.... in my opinion.
