hi there, new here and on day 10.

I've been wanting to post but I figured I needed to pass a reasonable threshold of not drinking for myself before I was ready...I've read a ton of posts in the meantime and its really helped. I think the longest I have gone without a drink the past 5 years was 4 days, so I've more than doubled that. Not sleeping so well so I've been doing some sunrise walks and activities, and damn if it isn't amazing how much energy I have after 6 hours of sober sleep vs 8 hours passed out. Night sweats are gone and feeling good so far. I reached a point where my wife said " I wake up scared for you, you can't keep doing this". I'm generally really private and this forum has been incredibly helpful. So thanks everyone in advance.

thanks for the early encouragement. I have some testing weekends ahead, including a bachelor party where I haven't quite figured out how to tell them I'm not drinking this weekend...I work with one of them (he actually reports to me) so I have to be careful how I explain it...thoughts? I'm confident I can do it!

Welcome Jim

Have you considered not going to the bachelor party?

great question. I have. Ultimately I decided I need to be able to deal with such things in the future and I'd rather face it now with my sober optimism. I figure if I make it through this its a massive step and I feel ready for it. I went to a birthday party with drinking games, etc last weekend (kinda sad given I'm late thirties) but I was fine...just got bored.

Hi Jim congrats on 10 days! If you've done one day you can do any day sober. Here's all the strength I can give you on tackling the bucks situation. It's ok to leave some things alone for a while, a sober bucks is a HUGE test!

Welcome Jim, and congratulations on 10 days. I told my workmates I was going to have a year off alcohol, and if they asked why I would say I didn't want it to develop into a habit. Most people relate to that.
When the year was I up I just told them I'd decided to keep going, but most people don't ask.

Thanks for sharing Jim, I relate strongly to your story, we're the same age and you're dead right about sober sleep vs. passed out. Makes life seem much better.

Well done on 10 days.
