I sleep so much better than I did when I was drinking. I wake up with a clear head instead of a headache. I lost weight. I have more energy. My head is clear. I don't fall asleep in front of the TV (well, maybe sometimes I do, but less!).

My anxiety/tightness in the chest is almost gone (I'm on day 8).

Unfortunately I still drink. But a few years ago i didn't drink for almost a year, and i noticed a few things.

The weight just fell off without effort. I could go to bed and actually fall asleep without being heavily sedated, which i didn't think was possible!! Then this amazing thing would happen in the morning....I'd wake up and NOT have a headache! NOT lie around for an hour just getting the strength to stand up.

I got a lot more done and didn't get stomachaches all the time.

The two best things I noticed were much better sleep, and waking up feeling good.

I lost weight, my blood pressure went down, my cholesterol went down, my skin looks and feels better, I sleep better, I pretty much just feel better all around.

I can tell you I don't notice much change. Am 9 weeks and am exhausted, physically and mentally shot. 6 hours ago I was on a natural high. It's just a constant roller coaster waiting for my moods to even out.

When I'm able to make it a week....I just feel better overall. Better mood and quality of life. I'd swear I have my mental clarity.

You know what is weird, is that I'm definitely in better health as a non-drinker, but what I notice more is that I no longer have to worry about how alcohol is affecting my health, or "how much is too much". None is never too much.

Normal blood pressure, my liver function tests have all returned to normal, liver ultra sound is good. I ate like a MAD MAN when I drank, so dropping the booze resulted in weight loss(for positive reasons of not cramming pounds of junk into my body and eating healthier). Loss the overly bloated face. I was told by several people that I look healthier. I was also told that I am "starting to get my color back" whatever that means. No palpitations(heart flutters). Lower anxiety. More restful sleep then when I drank. I don't have the shakes now.

One thing I will tell you.....at least for me, the emotional part of being sober in the beginning sucks. Its a roller coaster which several people in AA tell me is normal and will pass. I was sober for 2 weeks. I had a terrible and scary 3 day relapse, and I am back on day 11. The physical changes/results I mentioned above apply to my recent strands of sober days.

Biggest things for me:

1) Not sick in the morning now. I used to wake up hacking and nearly wretching every day (and I have never smoked).

2) Mystery pains have vanished.

3) I have a lot more energy all the time.

4) I am sleeping better, solidly through the night.

5) I'm clear headed all the time- that permanent brain fog is gone.
