On my first day here I saw mention of Rational Recovery and their concept of AVRT. I googled those terms and went to their site and took the free online course. I got me very interested in the ideas in their material, it resonated haven't looked back since. Certainly could not hurt to check out

wish you well

Welcome to SR from a fellow Buckeye! I found that posting instead of drinking helped me a lot. I spent a lot of time here but it was useful time, as opposed to drinking my life away.

You can also go in the chat room if you're having bad urges to drink. It helps to have someone to talk to.

You need a plan for 5pm . . . if you arrive home and simply sit doing nothing during the time that you usually filled with drinking the craving to drink may be too much.

Instead have an activity or list of activities planned before you get home, almost like your job, 5pm until bedtime must have a schedule, housework, watching TV, reading, simply online games, going for a long walk, whatever it is you need to know what it's going to be.

Eliminating alcohol and continuing the same pattern of life will equate to sitting at home bored thinking about drinking, but instead redesigning your evening routine into a complete new lifestyle which doesn't facilitate alcohol is a more successful way forward!!

You can do this!!

Purpleknight has some solid wisdom in his post. Finding a new way of life from top to bottom is key, where I failed at.

You can do this!

Welcome! Early on I found it very helpful to just read about alcoholism and became a student of the game. Everyone takes a different approach from AA, ARVT, counseling, etc. I would look at formulating a plan on how you will now spend all of your new-found time that you used to spend drinking. Sincere props on admitting it to yourself...Stay in touch!
