My sobriety song....

Today while I was exercising, I listened to my iPod which has the song "Stronger" on it by Kelly Clarkson. I sang along and the words seem to all be relevant to me. I was singing to alcohol. I, of course, listened to it a couple of times and will continue to do so. Here are some of the lyrics...

"You know the bed feels warmer
Sleeping here alone
You know I dream in colour
And do the things I want

You think you got the best of me
Think you had the last laugh
Bet you think that everything good is gone
Think you left me broken down
Think that I'd come running back
Maybe you don't know me, cause you're dead wrong

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
What doesn't kill you makes a fighter
Footsteps even lighter
Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone"

Does anyone have a similar song?

This song has helped me so much.

Jessie J : "Who You Are"

I stare at my reflection in the mirror:
"Why am I doing this to myself?"
Losing my mind on a tiny error,
I nearly left the real me on the shelf.
No, no, no, no, no...

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay.
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!
(who you are [11x])

Brushing my hair—do I look perfect?
I forgot what to do to fit the mould, yeah!
The more I try the less it's working, yeah
'Cause everything inside me screams
No, no, no, no, no...

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay.
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart.
But tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
There's nothing wrong with who you are!

Yes, no, egos, fake shows, like whoa!
Just go and leave me alone!
Real talk, real life, good love, goodnight,
With a smile that's my home!
That's my home, no...

No, no, no, no, no...

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!
Yeah yeah yeah

I love the transition in this song - starts out a bit gloomy but ends on an uplifting, positive note. I think the song is more about general depression but I find it very a propos these days. It's my profile song at the moment.

"What You Wish For" by Guster

Woke up today to everything gray
And all that I saw just kept going on and on
Sweep all the pieces under the bed
Close all the curtains and cover my head

And what you wish for won't come true
You aren't surprised, love, are you?

...

Once had this dream
Crashed down in Oz
Not black and white
But where the colors are

I never dreamed that I would let it go

And I will get what I deserve
Keep all the secrets under the bed
Open the curtains, forget what I said

So what you wish for could come true
You act surprised, love, are you?

Thanks, heres another one by the same Artist, its growing on me.

Jessie J - Thunder - YouTube

Jessie J: "Thunder"

[Verse 1:]
I'm a red and fragile rose
Won't grow in the dark alone
Take me there cause I need to find the light

I hate that I'm scared of this
But you believe so I'll take the risk
Hold me and tell me I'm alright

[Pre-Chorus 1:]
Now I'm falling down
You lift me up to the clouds
Yes, I'm falling down
You lift me up Yea!

[Chorus:]
You make my hands shake
I watch the glass break
Around my guarded heart tonight
This ain't no mistake
You make my earth quake
You feel like thunder in the sky
Like thunder, thunder, thunder (oh oh)
Thunder, thunder, thunder
Like thunder, thunder, thunder (oh oh oh oh)
You feel like thunder in the sky

[Verse 2:]
Broke free, saw an open road
Footsteps lead me to your soul
Now I run with a home to go to

Never thought I'd be this happy
If you asking yes you have me
How you change my thoughts, you'll never know

[Pre-Chorus 2:]
So when you're falling down
I'll lift you up to the clouds
Yes, when you're falling down
I'll lift you up yea!

[Chorus:]
You make my hands shake
I watch the glass break
Around my guarded heart tonight
This ain't no mistake
You make my earth quake
You feel like thunder in the sky
Like thunder, thunder, thunder (oh oh)
Thunder, thunder, thunder
Like thunder, thunder, thunder (oh oh oh oh)
You feel like thunder in the sky

[Bridge:]
I was broken and starting to think that I'm should be ashamed
Trebling and nervous and naked feeling afraid
Then you came and told me and showed to fight through the rain
Fight through the rain, to fight through the rain
Yea yea yea

[Chorus:]
You make my hands shake
I watch the glass break
Around my guarded heart tonight
This ain't no mistake
You make my earth quake
You feel like thunder in the sky
Like thunder, thunder, thunder (oh oh)
Thunder, thunder, thunder
Like thunder, thunder, thunder (oh oh oh oh)
You feel like thunder in the sky

Explanations: I apologise in advance if I get carried away with my emotions.

First Song, (Who I am) This song reminds me of looking at myself when drunk in a mirror. Completely drinking my life away, with little regard for my body. Literally losing myself.

Saying to myself that its ok, not to be ok (Dependant on Alcohol). While not being true to who I really am.

Trying to fit a mould to be normal. The more I tried the more I drank, and inside I am screaming NOOOO !!!

It is a song, that reminds me, I can never go back to those days of drinking again.

It represents a journey which is hard to find yourself.

Everybody bruising reminds me Sober Recovery, because everybody is bruising and not losing, just trying.

The second song (Thunder) is about my growing with sobriety, taking a risk and trying not to fall. Being caught by the kind folks on here, who are literally are the thunder I need to hear to keep me sober. Their experiences, their support, their advice is like thunder in the sky.

"Never thought I would be this happy" is in direct reference to feeling happier now I am sober."

So true these lyrics could have been written for my journey.

Emotions are good, no worries. It's quite something the way some songs strike a chord within us. It's therapeutic for me as it sounds as if it is for you autan.

Very therapeutic, I think songs either connect with certain events in your life at certain times or just pee you off, but both these songs are on my ipod playlist. I owe the Sober Recover team and recovery a debt of gratitude for getting me Sober and I owe Jessie J, a debt of gratitude for allowing me express my inner most feelings and recognise them.

I had become so numbed by alcohol, that when you get your feelings back, you wonder why you ever wanted to suppress them.

You know I used to have to drink loads, to talk like this, now I have a cuppa tea. Fantastic.

Love the topic...I too while running will listen to Pandora. My kids bought my a running jacket for Christmas that I can put my phone in one of the pockets and plug in ear phones. Kind of funny, my runs are longer. My sobriety song is "The Riddle" by Five For Fighting. "There's a reason for the world, You and I, You and I." " I Love you free, Love you free." Drinking has taken up so much of my life, sometimes I wonder what my purpose is now that I am on my Sobriety track. This song brings a tear to my eye. And it makes me feel good at the same time. What I get out of its lyrics is just enjoy what is right in front of you and Love. Even though I drank and drank, now I know the reason for all the drinking. I am suppose to get Sober. Love is Free! Thanks for sharing. SD: 11/15/13. Enjoy... Five for Fighting-The Riddle (lyrics) - YouTube

Wondering what your purpose is in life, is a privilege that only the Free can enjoy.

For certain. To think this time 6 months ago, I was planning my suicide and now I feel reborn is such a victory. I would offer hope to everyone that aspires to be alcohol free, its not easy but it is achievable and the rewards are that most days you feel great.

One of my favorite sobriety songs is "Can't Hardly Wait" by The Replacements.

I'll write you a letter tomorrow
Tonight I can't hold a pen
Someone's got a stamp that I can borrow
I promise not to blow the address again

Lights that flash in the evening,
Through a crack in the drapes

Jesus rides beside me
He never buys any smokes
Hurry up, hurry up, ain't you had enough of this stuff
Ashtray floors, dirty clothes, and filthy jokes

See you're high and lonesome
Try and try and try

Lights that flash in the evening,
Through a hole in the drapes
I'll be home when I'm sleeping
I can't hardly wait

I can't wait. Hardly wait.

I agree, autan. It's funny how drastically our views of the world can be if we stop drinking poison.
