Anyone in Debtors Anonymous?
I paid off the last of my unsecured debt today.
I have not incurred any new debt since my first meeting in 2011. I have paid nearly off nearly $50,000 since that first meeting.
I just wanted to tell someone
I feel like a million bucks. I have just come home from the bank where I made my very last payment. I never thought I would see this day.

Thanks Dee. It's still sinking in.
I answered 'yes' to all 15 questions to begin with. Now I can honestly say the answer to all 15 questions is a big, resounding 'no'.

Just to clarify, there are very few DA meetings and members in my area, so I couldn't do the 'pressure relief meetings' they recommend. I went to the occasional meeting and just followed the rule of not incurring new debt, read the literature and recommended books. I've been in and out of AA since 2008 and assume whatever benefit I'm getting from the 12 steps is contributing to general 'emotional sobriety'.
I never even knew there was a debtor's anonymous. But, this post is timely as of late I have been really worried about my financial standing and debts. The topic came up in an AA meeting yesterday and in dialogue with my sponsor over the weekend.
It seems that one thing MANY of us have in common is a debt problem. The way we have turned to alcohol instead of facing life on life's terms has meant we've let things go and let bills and debts pile up.
I resolved last night before bed that this will be the year I tend to those piles of debt. I'm grateful they're not too overwhelming, but still it will take time. Taking one by one, step at a time, day by day....
Your post is inspirational to me. I can't wait to experience the feeling of having taken care of things and got onto a strong financial foundation for pretty much the first time in my life.

Man, that's awesome!
Mrs Non and I climbed out of debts some years back, then we ran into a whole new problem - how does one invest, and what is the best way to go about it? We've done alright with that, hope you do too!

My drinking certainly contributed to my financial mess. I found the Dave Ramsey program really helpful and posted on the forums for support and help, much like I do with SR for my alcoholism.
