Chocolate

Does anyone else find that chocolate helps ease the pain and the cravings during recovery?

I think it's a prerequisite on the application for attempting to quit drinking

Yes, it's common. Biochemically, sugar and alcohol are the same thing. When you take in large amounts of sugar it sends your blood sugar high and releases a feel-good neurotransmitter called serotonin.

However, alcohol is able to spike your blood sugar twice as fast. So if you have stopped taking in alcohol and replaced it with high sugar eating, you could be setting yourself up for a relapse.

Be careful with sugars.

The funny thing is that I never ate sweets while I was drinking. Now chocolate is my new favorite food group. I started buying dark chocolate because it's at least a little healthier.

Initially yes. When it came to chocolate, resistance was futile. Now, it's eased up, thankfully as I can't afford a new wardrobe

Ice cream. With chocolate in it. That is the trick for me. Moose tracks specifically lol. I have also been consuming carbs like a freak. It may or may not be healthy but at this point, it isn't alcohol and everything that comes with that.

After eating a bunch of mini chocolate bars this afternoon I would have to say yes, yes chocolate helps with cravings. My waistline and teeth may not thank me but I didn't drink.

And ice cream. Ice cream with chocolate in it to be exact.

I've been having a chunk of Ghirardelli 100% cocoa once in awhile, no sugar at all, just pure cocoa goodness. Yum yum.
