What vitamins should I take?

I am committed to my recovery and realize that my drinking has wreaked havoc on my body including hair loss. Any nutritional ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for the information! I'm thrilled that I stumbled (not literally thank God) onto this site!

I'd recommend seeing a doctor as well before embarking on any supplement plans or diets. You could potentially make things worse, rather than better.

Yes, definitely talk to your dr about any vitamins you plan to take.

There is a great book, 7 Weeks to Sobriety, which covers sobriety from a nutritional standpoint. That said, you should also work your chosen recovery program and talk to your Dr.

Definitely speak with your doctor, but Omega fish oils and Complex B vitamins are definitely useful. I find they help you restore mental balance that's been decimated, for me, over the years due to booze

Jennifer blacks anti inflammatory diet is great! You won't need to supplement as its a super nutrient rich way to eat! I swear by it! Almost eradicated my RA, as well as my body's massive vitamin/mineral deficiencies.

I'd add getting some labs done early in sobriety is wise. Not only will you know where you're depleted but also to have a physical reference to look back on when your healthy and sober

Good luck congrats

Your doctor can run some basic bloodwork to find out what is going on. Your body might be depleted due to lack of proper nutrition. you might be low on iron, you might be low on calcium, B's etc. there is no quick fix.

it depends on your diet, lifestyle, are you male or female, age, etc.

I also had lost almost 50% of my hair when I finally stopped, it was coming out in handfuls in the shower. took about 18 month to grow back with paying attention to my diet and eating good food. I supplement with a good quality multi-capsule (they dissolve easier and absorb better), calcium, vitamin D, b complex. I try to avoid a lot of sugar and heavy salt (which I love).

good luck.

in the meantime, try to eat a good diet, drink water, juices, etc, and eat your veggies.
