Rob Ford

Been difficult to watch this whole sorry saga unfold in front of international attention.

On the one hand, I'm quite ideologically opposed to the guy, but as a recovering addict it's tough not to have a bit of sympathy to watch somebody who is so obviously up to his neck in addiction.

It really struck me when he said it wasn't realistic for him never to have another drink. For those of us in recovery, that is a massive red flag.

One thing is for sure, it's clear that the people he has around him right now don't have his best interests at heart. Can't blame them totally as Ford has fired every person urging him to get help. But to see his brother backing this nonsense is..... unsightly.

As a community of recovering addicts here, I'm wondering what other thoughts and perspectives are out there regarding this mess.

If he wants to drink himself silly and smoke crack until his head explodes, that's his business, but he should not be holding public office if he is not sober. That is my thought and perspective.

I feel much empathy toward him as an addict. Buy as a voter, notsomuch. I just had a mental picture of myself trying to run anything let along the city of Toronto during active addiction...this can't end well. I pray that he steps down as mayor and steps right on into a rehab facility and/or the rooms.

What a narcissistic, egomaniacal, self-serving, privileged, dishonest, ignorant, bombastic jerk.

That being said, I do hope he faces the truth and gets help for his addictions.

Has struggle with the bottle too. Hmm giant ego as well.
