Did you read what you wrote. Your wife is in pain, you need to be there for her, not a drink. Wow, as alcoholics we can sure come up with excuses. Hang in there, don't give up. I hope you can put the drink down and go comfort your wife, even if it is just to say you understand. I look back on some of the reasons I thought I should have a drink. Like a drink is going to help anything. We take a drink because we are alcoholics. We stop drinking when we say "ENOUGH" and it will be our choice either way. If I never have the first drink, I will never be drunk again. We can do this, one day at a time, one drink at a time. I hope next time you come here before you have the drink. Hugs, and I hope tomorrow is a better day.

I am not reading this as though he drank but as a reason he used to drink, could be wrong.

Hang in there, Geno, do something nice for the wife.

There are a lot of free or low cost clinics around - if there's one in your local area your wife might get some medical advice there?

Free/Low-Cost/Sliding-Scale Clinics
The 10377 clinics in this database are free, low cost, low cost with a sliding scale based on income, or offer some type of financial assistance.
also try 211:

2-1-1 Call Center Search

2-1-1 provides free and confidential information and referral. Call 2-1-1 for help with food, housing, employment, health care, counseling and more. Learn more about your local 2-1-1 by looking it up here.

Geno - The way you're feeling is normal in the early days. It will pass. I'm sorry about your wife's pain - I hope you can find some help. Proud of you for not caving! Things will get better.
