Giving up vs Letting Go

There is a big difference between giving up and letting go.

Giving up means selling yourself short. It means allowing fear and struggle to limit your opportunities and keep you stuck.

Letting go means freeing yourself from something that is no longer serving you. It means removing toxic people and belief systems from your life so that you can make room for relationships and ideas that are conducive to your well-being and happiness.

Giving up reduces your life.
Letting go expands it.

Giving up is imprisoning.
Letting go is liberation.

Giving up is self-defeat.
Letting go is self-care.

So the next time you make the decision to release something or someone that is stifling your happiness and growth, and a person has the audacity to accuse you of giving up or being weak, remind yourself of the difference. Remind yourself that you don’t need anyone’s permission or approval to live your life in the way that feels right. No one has the authority to tell you who to be or how to live. No one gets to decide what your life should look like or who should be a part of it. No one, but you.

Thank you for the reminder. Sometimes letting go takes more strength than hanging on.

Hugs

I have learnt that hanging on is definitely a cop out in my situation. It's an avoidance behavior that keeps me from having to do something about my situation.

Thanks for the post.

Bumping this as I think it is a very good reminder that letting go is NOT giving up.

Love this, printed it off and put it under the glass on my desk! I have to remind myself of this all the time. When I feel as though I am giving up I see myself through the goggle eyes of failure. When I think of letting go (and letting God) I know I am helping myself be a better self.

Thank you...Thank you!

Hopeful it is weird because a friend and I were JUST discussing this very topic of giving up vs. letting go! I too love this and need to keep it close. Glad bringing it back ha shelped someone besides myself.

This motivated me so much. Yesterday my AH was a nervous wreck over a court date he had today. It was really just a mix up and no big deal at all, however he was just a mess. Normally I would be affected by that. I went home yesterday after reading this and just stayed on my side of the street. Enjoyed time with my daughters. Laughed alot even though he was sitting there miserable because of his own thoughts. I had let go of all of it. It felt so good. I have not given up on my life or life for him even. However I have let go and can see it is up to him to change him and me to change me.

I just wanted to come back and say thanks again. This truly did save me from having a miserable evening last night which would have been a big negative for my girls too.

Have a great weekend!
